Dr. Patricia Chen
she/her I study why people do the things they do online — and more specifically, why they keep doing those things even when every rational part of their brain is screaming "stop."
The short answer is: it's not your fault. Well, it's a little bit your fault. But the platforms you're using have spent billions of dollars engineering your behavior, exploiting the same neural pathways that kept our ancestors alive on the savanna. Your brain literally cannot tell the difference between a saber-toothed tiger and a notification badge. We're all fighting against 200,000 years of evolution with nothing but vibes and willpower.
I'm here to explain the science — and more importantly, to show you that understanding the mechanism is the first step to breaking free from it.
